    Belle Vue Aces Speedway Team (BSEL)

    The Belle Vue Aces are one of the leading teams in British Speedway, a fast paced motor sport where four motorcycle riders compete in a series of four-lap sprint races on an oval dirt track. Belle Vue race on Monday nights at Kirkmanshulme Greyhound Stadium from March to October.

    Lancashire County Cricket Club was founded in 1864 following a meeting of the area's leading club teams, recent successes have come in one-day tournaments rather than five-day test matches. Fixtures are scheduled regularly throughout the summer, with games against local rivals Yorkshire being a particular highlight.

    Salford City Reds Rugby League Football Club (SLR)

    Salford City Reds play in the Super League; European Rugby League's premier club competition. Established in 1873 as the Red Devils, a nickname later copied by Manchester United Football Club, have won numerous championships. Fixtures at the team's stadium, known as the Willows, are scheduled regularly during the season which runs from February to September.

    Manchester United Football Club (FAPL)

    Based at the massive Old Trafford stadium which seats over 75,000 spectators, Manchester United are one of the most familiar football teams in the world. Founded in 1878 as Newton Heath, the first players were drawn from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway staff. Christened Manchester United in 1902, the club have evolved into one of the most successful in England and the world with numerous league titles and cups to their name. Old Trafford also houses a museum dedicated to the club and stadium tours are possible but must be booked in advance.

    Manchester City Football Club (FAPL)

    In terms of raw success, City are somewhat in the shadow of local rivals Manchester United, but they are still a big club who have won both domestic and European honours. Originally a church team known as West Gorton (St. Marks), they became known as Manchester City in 1894. The club recently moved to the City of Manchester stadium, which was built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Tours of this big ground are possible but need to be booked in advance.
